The Centre is constantly playing a major role as an advisory organ to governments, institutions and other organizations.
SUPPORT FOR MEETINGS AND SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCES
The Centre has a strong policy for support of scientific meetings. Indeed the Centre, within available resources, makes a modest provision for the promotion and sponsorship of scientific conferences, workshops, seminars, symposia etc in the area of the mathematical sciences and their applications.
Beneficiaries of this scheme have been: the Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS), the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), the Nigeria institute of physics, the Nigerian Association of Mathematical Physicists, the Computer Association of Nigeria (COAN), the National Association of Mathematics Students, African Mathematical Union (AMU), National Association of Computer Students, among others.
We need adequate funding, and we shall continue to appeal to all stakeholders especially in the education sector to partner with the Centre in sponsoring projects aimed at encouraging and supporting activities leading to the improvement of the teaching and learning of mathematics at all levels.
We hope Nigerians in all fields of endeavour would, whenever they are approached for the financing of viable worthwhile educational projects, encourage the Centre in achieving its mandate for the betterment of our people and to the glory of God.
PROVIDING TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING IN RAPIDLY CHANGING DISCIPLINES
Experts in the mathematical sciences and especially, Mathematics and Physics would readily testify that the pace of development in the mathematical sciences in the last fifty years or so has been breath-taking as whole new branches of the mathematical sciences are continually being created. The trend is generating diverse applications which have impact on every aspect of our lives. We have today a science landscape that is as dynamic as it can get. It is therefore evident that no single academic institution or specialized outfit in the whole world will ever be in a position to provide training and capacity building activities in all branches of the mathematical sciences. This calls for greater cooperation and synergy among outfits providing capacity building services in the mathematical sciences, especially in the International arena.
