The Directorate

The Directorate is headed by the Director General of the Centre. The status and functions are equivalent to that of  Vice Chancellor in Nigerian University system..

The pioneer Director, Professor J. O. C.  Ezeilo retired in 1997. In the interim, late Professor R. F. A. Abiodun, Professor Iya Abubakar and Professor Sunday Iyahen acted respectively as Directors until April, 1999 when Professor A O E Animalu was appointed Director and  Professor S. O. Iyahen as Deputy Director respectively. With the exit of  Professor A. O. E. Animalu as Director in January, 2001, Professor Sunday Iyahen again acted as Director until June 2002 when the incumbent, Professor Sam O. Ale mni OFR appointed by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria assumed duty as Director and Chief Executive of the Centre. Professor Sam O. Ale mni OFR was re-appointed to a five-year second tenure as the Director General of the Centre in 2007

Under the strategic plan scenario, the Director General exercises control from the main office of the DG through eight units under the Directorate, namely, Academic/Consultancy Services, Internal Audit, Security, Information and Public Relations, Finance Adviser, Works and Services, and other Special Projects.

The officers working in these units are in accordance to the Nigerian University system.
