JOINT HIGHER DEGREE PROGRAMME

In fulfillment of its mandate “to develop and train high level personnel in the mathematical sciences for Nigerian and African institutions” as well as to alleviate shortage of high level manpower in the mathematical sciences”, the Centre has initiated its own postgraduate degree programmes in the mathematical sciences (at M.Sc and Ph.D levels) in collaboration with six Nigerian Universities in the following areas not being offered in any Nigerian University namely:-
- Mathematics in Biomedicine with University of Jos;
- Mathematical Modelling and Simulation of Engineering Systems–Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi;
- Mathematical Ecology–Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi;
- Mathematical Modelling in Maritime Technology–Federal University of Technology, Owerri;
- Information and Communication Technology in Mathematics Education–University of Ilorin; and
- Information and Communication Theory–Obafemi Awolowo University Ife.
The above programmes are still awaiting the final approval of the National Universities Commission for take-off. The Centre has already started the Joint Msc and PGD programmes in Financial Mathematics with the University of Abuja with lecturers for the programme drawn from various Nigerian Universities.
The Centre envisages that those who do well among the 30 pioneering students in the Msc programme could proceed to a PhD programme.
The Centre has registered over 60 full time Professors as Affiliates to be involved in this programme. These are renowned Mathematicians and Professors of the highest quality, drawn from the Diaspora and within Nigeria.
The Centre has also contributed the following books and monographs:
- Proceedings of the National Mathematical Centre on ordinary Differential Equations 2000.
- Lecture Notes Series Number 1: A Foundation Postgraduate Course in Algebra 2001.
- Lecture Notes Series Number 2: A Research oriented course in the Arithmetic of Elliptic Curves Groups and Loops 2001
- Lecture Notes Series Numbers 3: A Research Oriented Course in Topological Vector Spaces Non-locally Convex, Non-Archimedeam 2001
- Lecture Notes Series Number 4: A Foundation Postgraduate Course in Object- Oriented Software Design Introduction to C++ Programming 2001
- Lecture Note Series Number 5: A Research Oriented Course in Semi Group Theory 2001
- NMC Characteristic Classes: Lecture Notes Series of the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, Nigeria
- NMC: Homological Algebra: Lecture Notes Series of the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, Nigeria.
