JOINT HIGHER DEGREE PROGRAMME

In pursuance of one of its mandate to train a develop high level personnel in the mathematical sciences which includes mathematics, statistics, computer science and theoretical physics for Nigerian and African institutions, the National Mathematical Centre has decided to broaden the scope of its activities within the framework of its mandates by collaborating with University of Abuja to run postgraduate programme in Financial Mathematics.
The mode of operation of joint degree programme of National Mathematical Centre involves all lectures to take place in the centre in conformity to the curriculum requirement of the University of Abuja - the base university that will award the degree.
Mission
The mission of the Joint Degree Programme is to foster multi-disciplinary research based on using high-level mathematics to solve important scientific and technological problems arising from other disciplines and industry.
Vision
The vision of JDP is to develop appropriate initiative and resources of international standards for research and re-awakening and sustaining interests in the mathematical sciences.
Objectives
The objectives of Joint Degree Programme are:
- To open more areas for research work in mathematical sciences in our nation;
- To stimulate the enthusiasm of students towards research in certain areas necessary for national development;
- To design, train and provide up-to-date academic materials in specialized and unique Nigerian universities;
- To pull together renown professors from different institutions to work together in areas of national development;
- Due to the inter-disciplinary nature of the programme being undertaken it gives room to young mathematical scientists to make their choice in research work.
